I’m curious about the state of formatting support across the fediverse.

This is a test post, authored in Markdown via the glitch-soc frontend.

This text should be bold.

This text should be in italics.

This text should have a strikethrough.

This text should be monospace.

If you see this post, please share a screenshot of it, and tell me which client app or web frontend you’re using. Thank you.

phanpy on android

question: does the client make a difference? isn't this formatting done on the server?

IceCubes on iOS, no formatting whatsoever, but it also seems to have stripped out markdown characters (if there were any to begin with?)

@alexforster that is weird… i have at least partial formatting. IceCubes as well

Mona on macOS. (It’s not a great app but I appreciate it for being just the right amount of annoying to reduce my screen time.)

toot! on ios (has not been updated in about a year, so i’m not terribly surprised…)

Moshidon on Android works mostly but seems to ignore monospace unless the font is already monospace

Ivory for iOS v2.2.3, openvibe (also iOS) v1.3.4, both of which failed to do any formatting at all, and what I assume is the standard web front end for mastodon v4.2.13.

I like ivory, but the lack of text formatting is particularly irritating. One thing you didn’t test was lists, which it smooshes together into a single paragraph 🫤

Android app from Mastodon themselves has no formatting, just the raw text

another good one to test is bullet points. Those usually come through all screwed up for me. Just all smashed together with zero white space between bullets.

Like other folks using Ivory on iOS, macOS version also shows no formatting support:

I don't think I'm seeing correctly the monospace. I'm using Tusky 26.2 on Android 14.

Web client, Mastodon 4.0.15 on bitbang.social

I miss the cool formatting in glitch-soc

Here's my view from Moshidon version 2.3.0+fork.107.moshinda-play on Android!
